Staining
Application of stain/varnish that is chosen by the homeowner to give the log home weather and UV protection, which may include penetrating stains, top coats, and clear coat. Ask about other finish related applications. We are knowledgeable on a wide variety of products to help with the best choices for your log home needs!

Buffing/Sand Blasting
Sanding and buffing removes old failing finishes, dirt/debris, graying wood, water marking and other surface signs of weather and UV damage. This allows raw wood to be exposed for application of new stain and/or varnish. It is important to address these log surface concerns before the staining process to ensure proper protection and adhesion.

Chink Repair
Chinking is the process of filling the gaps between logs on the log home to promote a weather and thermal barrier. Having healthy chink can help to lower heating and cooling costs and keep bugs, unwanted critters, and drafts out of your log home. We provide many different styles and options to choose from to make your log home looking at its best while giving it proper protection.

Log Replacement and Refacing
Logs can become rotten if exposed to certain conditions. Our team can assess the rot and determine the best path for remediation. Log replacement is needed when the log has lost its structural integrity. Log refacing can be done when the log face has rotted, but the log itself is still structurally sound. Once logs are replaced our team will ensure they are properly protected and prepare a rot preventative plan with home owner.

Pressure Washing
Pressure washing services are provided for yearly log home upkeep and refreshment. Some unwanted critters may be leaving there droppings and urine on your log home and if not properly taken care of unwanted stains and markings can occur. Pollen and dust can also accumulate having your log home looking dull and dirty, but with a proper log home wash we can have your home looking clean and inviting. Frequently Asked Question
We strive to make the process as smooth and hassle free as possible. Our knowledgeable team is excited to answer any questions you may have a long the way!
Why refurbish your log home?
Over time sun, rain/snow and other factors gradually damage the look and health of wood surfaces. Some areas of your home may collect water, which can lead to log rot, so it’s important to repair this before it causes structural issues. Removing old stain, applying new wood treatments and replacing old chink help to maintain your home’s energy efficiency and ensure it continues looking it’s best for many years to come
How often do log homes need treatment?
Every structure is a little different, so we always recommend contacting us for questions on your specific building. Things like type of wood, size of logs, age, previous treatments and even local weather trends can all affect how frequently your logs will need treatment. Sun facing sides of buildings may need more frequent treatments than those with less direct sun exposure. Ideally a log home needs maintenance before the protective stains and varnishes are compromised. In general, every 3-5 years is a good starting point. R&D can help create a custom treatment plan to take the guess work out of when your house will need it’s next service.
What is chinking and why is it important?
Chink is the material that is applied along the gaps between the logs on a log home critical barrier between the interior of your home and the elements. A properly laid and healthy chink is critical to an energy efficient home.
Chinking is an insulator for your log home. With proper chinking, you will save on heating and cooling costs, while also keeping bugs and critters out.
Why do we sand blast and buff?
Stain and varnishes need a clean raw wood surface for proper penetration and adhesion. Buffing and blasting removes the aged wood, varnish, and paint/stain to ensure a proper raw wood surface for stain application.
What are some preventative measures I can take to extend the life of my log home?
There are many variables that can be damaging to the longevity of your log home. Sprinklers should never hit the log home and snow piles should be cleared regularly to prevent water marks and log rot. Log ends can be sealed or covered to prevent end log rot progressing into log walls. Fire retardants and bug repellents are additives that can be used if fire and pests are a concern for your log home. We always recommend washing your log home yearly to remove buildup from dust, pollen, and pests and to reduce risks of permanent damage.
